Rhode Island Introduces Bill to Allow Year of Manufacture License Plates

Legislation (H.B. 8011) to authorize the Division of Motor Vehicles to issue replica year of manufacture plates for antique vehicles was introduced.  The bill also allows the state to approve for use plates that were issued by the state in the exact year of manufacture of the vehicle.

We Urge You to Contact All Members of the Rhode Island House Finance Committee (Contact Info Below) Immediately to Request Support for H.B. 8011

  • In Rhode Island, an antique motor car is “any motor vehicle which is more than twenty-five (25) years old. Unless fully inspected and meeting inspection requirements, the vehicle may be maintained solely for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, and other functions of public interest and may not be used primarily for the transportation of passengers or goods over any public highway.

DON’T DELAY!  Please contact all members of the Rhode Island House Finance Committee to request support for H.B. 8011.

Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org.  Also, please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts.  Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Thank you for your assistance.

RISRA Information

Rhode Island Street Rodding Association was formed in 1973 by a small group of dedicated hot rod enthusiasts. Shortly thereafter it evolved to a Charter Club of the National Street Rod Association. NSRA is the largest street rod association in the world. This is our 39th anniversary which allows us to proudly claim to be the oldest street rod club in Rhode Island. We are involved in numerous shows throughout the season. Our first show, The Annual Automotive Extravaganza is on Memorial Day. This year will mark the 25th year that the event benefits the Johnston Little League.  In July  The Rhode Island Shrine Legion of Honor and RISRA will hold its' 7th annual car show at the Rhodes on the Pawtuxet, 1 Rhodes Place, Cranston, RI. June 8th 2014 marks our crème de la crème of the season with our own Washington County Swap Meet & Car Show. Also in this month we will pitch in and give West Warwick Parks Department & Centreville Bank a helping hand at their very successful "Oldies Night". August features a new venue Hot Rods and Harleys Haul for us at the Charlestown Sea Food Festival which is held on August 3th The War Veterans Tribute Cruise at the RI Veterans Home is a very successful multiorganizational show . We were one of eight car clubs that initially launched this great cause and look forwarded to the another annual cruise.   Wehave our oldest show, the 38th Annual "Toys for Tots" Fun Run for the Sunday of Columbus Day Weekend.  A Poker Run Event is tentative and perhaps a Mystery Cruise. We are always actively seeking new members, if you have an interest in street rodding and would like further information either email us or attend a scheduled meeting listed within the events page.  Monthly meetings are held on the second Friday of each month at 1 Rhodes Place, Cranston, RI, all are welcome.
